Creating a Facebook Graphic to Announce a New Book

Posted on October 2, 2022

This year I’ve been working with gourd artist, Sandy Uhrick to create and publish a book entitled, Gourds of Christmas. It was published on Amazon a few days ago, so I decided to create a shareable graphic that could be shared on Facebook.

Purpose: to let her followers know that the book has been published and that it can be purchased on Amazon.

I did some research and decided to make the graphic 1200 x 700 px. I created it in a photo editing program (Affinity Photo).

Pondering… do I just do an image of the book and the text or could I make it better? I looked at some other book ads to get some ideas. It’s a coffee table book- how about the book beside a cup of coffee on a wooden backdrop? Not all that original but it might work. I find a cup of coffee on Pexels and isolate it from the background. Then I experiment with some wooden background images and decide on one I like. Because of the book’s dark color, it needs to be on a lighter background so I lighten the background by using the contrast/brighten tool and also adding an overlay of white.

I’ve been contemplating the wording. It needs to be short and to the point. Nothing too fancy. I had a brainstorming session on the way to church and wrote down some ideas: “Brand new Book, Gourds of Christmas, For sale on Amazon, Buy a copy today, etc.”

My daughter gave me her ideas too but she was having way too much fun with it, “You must be out of your gourd to not buy this book, This book has gourdgeous Christmas images, Oh my gourdness, my book is published!” Very entertaining but not exactly what I’m looking for.

I decided on,  Announcing…my new book. Now available for purchase on Amazon. I tried several different fonts to try and make it more exciting but decided to stay with Garamond.

After I was satisfied, I showed the ad to Sandy and she approved it and said “it looks inviting and charming.”

Finally, I uploaded it to Facebook and linked it to the Amazon sales page.
