Duct Tape Bookmark for Dad

DIY Duct Tape Bookmark, www.LoreneTroyer.com

I’ve been going through a book on duct tape crafts and happened to find some camouflage duct tape this morning. I feel the urge to make something, but let’s keep it simple. Hmmm… How about a bookmark, since the width is almost perfect.

For this project you’ll need:

a piece of cardstock

camouflage duct tape

letters to spell DAD (Free Printable)

textured light brown paper

scrap of dark brown or black paper, about 1½-inches square

tacky glue

ruler or straight edge tool

hole punch

hole reinforcement sticker, in coordinating color (optional)

8-10 inches brown jute, scissors or craft knife

Cut off a 7½-inch piece of tape and adhere it along one of the edges of your cardstock. Using your ruler, and cutting tool, trim the cardstock along the edges of the tape, squaring off the top and bottom.

Make a hole in the top with a hole punch. Apply the reinforcement sticker.

Save this download to your computer, open it up in your word processor (Word or OpenOffice etc.) and print it out on textured light brown paper or cardstock. Tear out the individual letters about ⅛-inch from the border.

To make the heart embellishment, fold the square of dark paper and cut out a heart shape. Adhere to the light brown paper and trim around the edges, leaving about ¼-inch border. Adhere to bottom of bookmark as shown.

To finish it, fold your jute in half and knot the ends together. Push the folded end through the hole, making a loop. Take the knot and thread it through the loop. Pull it snug.

With such a huge selection of duct tape patterns available, you can use this method to make a variety of bookmarks. Make the base of your bookmark, using duct tape and cardstock and then decorate with letters, flowers, leaves, interesting scraps of paper- anything that’s flat. Attach a matching or coordinating ribbon or cord and you’ll have a dandy bookmark for yourself or to give away.
